FAQ: How do I add the Touch Calendar widget to my home screen?

How you add the widget to your homescreen depends on what phone you have. On Android phones running Gingerbread (Android 2.3) or earlier, find an empty space on your home screen and tap-and-hold on it. A menu should pop up with a “Widget” option. Tapping that will bring up a list on which you should find Touch Calendar widget of various sizes.

On tablets running Honeycomb or devices running Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) such as the Galaxy Nexus, bring up the app launcher then tap where it says Widgets. Then find the Touch Calendar widget and tap-and-hold on it to add it to your home screen.

On some devices such as HTC devices, there will be a ‘+’ icon you  can tap to add things to your homescreen.

Widgets are only available in the full version of Touch Calendar.

FAQ: How do you change the event text colour in Touch Calendar?

Event colours come from the calendar. The usual way to get events in different colours is to use calendars from your Google account. You can go to http://google.com/calendar on the web to change calendar colours and add new colours.

Click the arrow next to 'my calendars' to add a new calendar. Move your move to the right of a calendar name and another arrow will appear, to let you change the calendar colour.

To add a new calendar: click the little triangle / down arrow to the right of “My calendars”. Click ‘Create new calendar’.

To change a calendar’s colour: See under “My calendars” on the left in Google Calendar for the list of calendars, move your mouse to the right of the calendar name, and click the little triangle that appears to the right of the calendar name to see the colour options.

Note: you only have to do this once. Once it’s done, you’ll see the calendars you created under the “Calendar” heading in the add event screen of Touch Calendar, and will be able to select the one you want.

If you have a Samsung phone you may have a calendar called “My calendar”. This calendar is built-in to your phone and its colour can’t be changed. I don’t recommend using that calendar.

Touch Calendar comes out of beta!

Touch Calendar has finished its beta and the official version is now available on the Android Market!

Touch Calendar widget

There are now two versions of Touch Calendar on the Market.  The full version is just called “Touch Calendar” and has an introductory price of £1.  It has all the features from the beta and adds home-screen widgets for the first time.  New features will also be added to the full version on a regular basis.

The beta version that many of you will already have installed has now become “Touch Calendar Free”. Rest assured it retains all the features from the beta and will continue to be free.

If you like the app I’d of course encourage you to purchase the full version to support development, but if you want to keep using the free version the choice is yours.

Thanks to everyone who tried the beta version and gave feedback.  I hope you all carry on enjoying using Touch Calendar!

Any feedback please let me know or discuss on the Touch Calendar User Group. Thanks!

Happy New Year!

Well, 2010 was a big year for apps by olilan: two apps launched, website and user group set up, and lots of releases to the Android Market.

Thanks to everyone who’s tried and used Searchify and Touch Calendar, and for all the suggestions and feedback. Hope you’ve had a good year too, and that 2011 is everything you want it to be 🙂

Touch Calendar 0.9.12

A fairly big update this time, with a new default colour scheme for the app.  Don’t worry if you preferred the old colours though – you can set the colour scheme in the settings.  There’s also a third ‘Monochrome’ scheme as well.

The changes in full:

  • Default colour scheme changed and colour scheme options added
  • Dark border between months
  • Default reminder setting
  • Repetition descriptions changed to be clearer
  • Fix for some events being deletable but not editable

Touch Calendar 0.9.9

  • Search settings have been added.  You can now configure how far in the past the search looks, how far in the future, how many results are returned, and whether or not the location field is searched
  • A ‘show week numbers’ option has been added
  • KNOWN ISSUE: When tapping events in the app, a menu will now appear with an option to open the event in Touch Calendar but this will not work.
